I'm wriggling with excitement for Halloween on Wednesday! Over the weekend I slithered my way into the kitchen for some fun, and made few creepy treats just in time for All Hallow's Eve.
I love this snake calzone. He looks like he could be a character on The Muppet Show. Yes, I just gave my food a gender, and yes, it was a little sad eating away at his cute face like a zombie.
I'm pretty proud of the way he turned out, and that we managed to successfully transfer him from the cookie sheet to a plate without letting him fall apart. (3 spatulas did the trick!) His big, doughy rattle tail is my favorite part. It's fun to break into bits and plunge into a big bowl of marinara.
To make your own Snake Calzone:
Preheat oven to 350°F
Roll out your pizza dough onto a lightly greased cookie sheet
Layer pizza goodness on top (sauce, cheese, pepperoni, or whatever else you fancy - just make sure it's not too stuffed)
Roll it long ways from one side to the other.
Seal the dough by pinching along the seam.
Turn the calzone seam side down on the cookie sheet.
Shape into an S
Bake for 30-40 minutes
Carefully transfer calzone to a plate, and decorate with a pepperoni snake tongue and two green olives for eyeballs. (You could also poke two holes in the side of the head before you bake, and the pizza sauce will squirt out slightly, making two tiny, beady eyes.)
